Google Business Profile & The Local Pack
When you Google a search term ie. “Manchester plumber”, the layout of the results will be very different than had you Googled “best schools in Manchester”. You’ll get some suggestions at the top of aggregator websites that Google considers reputable and trustworthy, followed by a map and a list of businesses connected to the map, followed then by a list of websites.
The businesses and the map are what are known as the Google Local Pack.

The fact that these results are shown above the usual list of websites means it’s a great place to be listed and can help you get more visibility than the usual Google list of websites.
If you click on “More businesses”, then Google will list a lot of businesses that are connected to the search term in that area whether they have a website or not. This is where the Local Pack differs from other search results. To rank in Google’s regular results, a website is a must, yet here it’s not. The decision-making process on who ranks above who is done via a review system and location proximity, so, if two businesses are in the same location, then the one with the most positive reviews will perform best.
